Scientists on a planet overcome by toxic sludge pollution inject the sludge with enzymes that cause it to evolve intelligence. They then convince the sludge to travel in a starship and find a new home. The advanced sludge land on the planet Marnfeec, and irritate the native monster Gigatairansu, who moves from planet to planet, never quite comfortable enough to settle down.
