A brilliant scientist develops a perpetual motion machine, but the device causes everything around it to stop moving. The effect spreads across the planet until nothing can move at all, then even the planet itself stops spinning. As the effect reaches out to the moons, and entire solar system, the scientist (who cannot move) tries to use his mind to turn the machine off. This fails, and the backlash causes him to turn into a monster.
