Just before a cataclysmic meteor is about the impact the planet Gnensta, scientists realise that the planet's atmosphere will be rendered toxic. Before this can happen, they infuse a large, friendly Maship with a concentrate form of their atmospheric gases, so that the creature will be able to re-invigorate the planet after the impact. Unfortunately, this mutates the Maship into a giant monster, and causes it go crazy and leave Gnensta for the depths of space. Now, Mashupanku travels to different planets, constantly emitting gases that convert worlds into storm-ridden nightmares.
