A completely automated mining complex is unveiled, and is activated as a test-run for its (hopeful) future use on another planet. The mining machines are all controlled by a central computer, but the system rebels and attacks the population instead. The computer has refused to continue mining for an unexplained reason. It is finally revealed that there is an ancinet alien monster buried in the ground that the computer was reluctant ti unearth.
